OBJECTIVE:

 
Getting acquainted with procedures and laboratory standards of biosafety.

EXPECTED RESULTS (specific skills)
After completing this module, the student must show that it is able to:
1. know in detail the main standards of laboratory safety
2. using basic laboratory equipment (autoclave, analytical balances, centrifuges, freezers, liquid nitrogen containers, safety cabins, mixers, pH meters, spectrophotometers, ovens, baths, water purification equipment, etc.)..
3. understand the logic of running streams and laboratory routines and their importance for quality and reliability of results.
4. maintain records, having a precise idea of its importance to the process of research and as an essential element of the system of quality control.
5. preparing media and solutions
6. apply the procedures for disinfection, decontamination and sterilization.

METHODOLOGY OF TEACHING / LEARNING
Teaching of the course will be based on lectures, practical laboratory sessions and seminars

STUDENTS EVALUATION
The final assessment of this module will be based on the weighted average of the final exam, of the seminar presentations and  of the practical activities. The evaluation criteria of the module shall comply with the assessment regulations of HCPM.
