OBJECTIVE:

 
Enable in the understanding and application of molecular and immunological techniques  for diagnosis of pathological conditions.

EXPECTED RESULTS (specific skills)
After completing this module, the student must show that it is able to:
1. describe the diagnostic concept in a broad sense, that is, not only in terms of clinical diagnosis of human and animal diseases, but also the concept of epidemiological diagnosis, including the distribution of pathogens and their molecular characterization.
2. identify and apply diagnostic techniques based on immunological and nucleic acids methods.

METHODOLOGY OF TEACHING / LEARNING
Teaching of the course will be based on lectures, practical laboratory sessions and seminars

STUDENTS EVALUATION

The final assessment of this module will be based on the weighted average of the final exam, of the seminar presentations and  of the practical activities. The evaluation criteria of the module shall comply with the assessment regulations of HCPM.

3. Diagnosis based on nucleic acids

           b. PCR and its variants
           c. Real-time PCR
           d. microarrays
4. Medical and forensic application of diagnostic methods
